"The Gart der Gesundheit was a landmark in the history of botanical illustration, one which marked perhaps the greatest step ever made in that art; its delineations of plants, breaking away from the traditional stylized woodcut, were not only unsurpassed, but unequalled for nearly half a century" (Hunt, nach Klebs).
EINBAND: Halbpergamentband des 19. Jahrhunderts mit Rückenschild. 26,5 : 18 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit ca. 190 altkolorierten Holzschnitten. - KOLLATION: 165 (st. 360) nn. Bll. - ZUSTAND: Gebrauchsspuren: Unterschiedlich fleckig und am Kopfsteg meist wasserrandig, 5 Bll. beschädigt (Textverlust), wenige Bll. mit Koloritbruch bzw. Fehlstellen (Text und Bild betroffen), tls. mit Randläsuren, tls. grob beschnitten, 4 Bll. verbunden, einige alte Marginalien.

Extensive fragment of the first edition. 165 (of 306) nn. leaves with ca. 190 woodcuts in contemp. coloring. 19th cent. half vellum with label. - Signs of use: Differently soiled, waterstaining at head, 5 leaves damaged (loss of text), few leaves with broken coloring (defective spots, loss of printed matter), partly marginal defects, partly roughly trimmed, 4 leaves misbound, some old marginalia.
