Erste Ausgabe. - Der berühmte Mediziner und Botaniker Pierre-Joseph Buchoz (1731-1807) war auch als reich schaffender Buchverleger bekannt. Die vollständige Liste seiner Werke umfaßt über 500, die meisten von ihnen sind heute sehr selten. Seine Illustrationen sind von hohem Standard und sein dekoratives und künstlerisches Gespür reiht ihn in die Reihe der naturwissenschaftlichen Größen des 18. Jahrhunderts ein.
Insgesamt enthält das Werk 20 Lieferungen. Vorliegend die vollständigen 6 Lieferungen zur Mineralogie (Decade 3, 6 und 9 in erster und zweiter Centurie). Ohne die Tiere und Pflanzen, die zusammen in 14 Lieferungen erschienen. Jede Einzellieferung enthält 20 (10 kolorierte) Kupfertafeln und ein Erläuterungsblatt. - „This collection … contains figures of the rarest, most remarkable, and most interesting phenomena of the three kingdoms of nature, each part being devoted to one of them” (Anker).
EINBAND: Halblederband mit reicher Rückenvergoldung und 2 farbigen Rückenschildern. 44,5 : 33 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 6 gestochenen Titeln in unterschiedlichen Farben, 120 (60 kolorierten) Kupfertafeln sowie 6 gestochenen Erläuterungsblättern. - ZUSTAND: Etw. gebräunt, Farbtafeln mit schwachem Abklatsch, 1 Titelbl. mit Quetschfalte. Einband leicht angeschmutzt, Kanten tls. beschabt und bestoßen, Oberes Kap. mit kl. Läsuren und etw. eingerissen. - PROVENIENZ: Exlibris K. D. Dahmen.

A remarkable illustrative work of natural history by the famous physician and botanist Pierre-Joseph Buchoz (1731-1807). With 6 engr. titles (in red, blue, ochre, black or greyish blue), 120 copperplates (6 series of 10 plates, each in uncolored and in handcolored state) and 6 engr. explanatory text leaves. Contemp. half calf with richly gilt spine and 2 labels on spine. - Slightly browned, color plates with faint offsetting 1 title page with a crease. Cover slightly soiled, edges partly scraped and bumped, top of spine with small defects and torn joints.
