PROVENANCE: Private collection, acquired directly from artist.

Otto Piene's artistic path is strongly coined by works in which fire participates in te creative process or even causes it. In various experiments and in an increasingly sensitive handling of the element, Piene manages to create a new primary symbolic language with his unique vocabulary. By means of a short exposure to fire, Piene achieves the paint's gelation on the image carrier. After the fire is out, the structure, which has found its appearance independently, is fixated. Thus the organic creation of nature is confronted with a controlled inteference of the artist and taken to a synthesis. [DB].
