The establishment of these troops - the Nizam-jedid - and the jealousy which this aroused - was one of the main factors leading to the revolt of the Janissaries in 1808 which cost Selim, and later the author of this work, their lives ... After the press of Müteferrika closed in about 1747, the Turkish press languished. In about 1792 the printing presses were removed to the engineering school at Koomberkhana (? Sütlüce) atteched to the bombardier arsenal, and books on tactics, fortifications and other matters pertaining to military reform began to be printed under the direction of Abdurrahman. The treatise by Mahmoud appers to be the first work of this second Turkish press to be printed in Latin letters. The book breathes the spirit of reform which Selim attempted to effect, and the author zealously praised the Sultan for what he had achieved. The plates illustrate the Camp of the New Troops at Levend Tschiftlik, the arsenal at Tophane, the powder magazines at Azadli and Constantinpole, the new artillery brought to Constantinople by General Dubayet, the naval basin, the marine arsenal, etc. etc." (Blackmer) - Außer den oben genannten Abbildungen zeigen die Tafeln Schiffsporträts, Uniformen, militär.
