Following his first Munich exhibitions around 1912, Pippel's paintings, created with a loose gesture and an impasto application of the colors, became increasingly popular among art lovers. In the following years, he created an extensive oeuvre in which he repeatedly brought the atmospheric mood of light to the fore. Pippel was one of the most important southern German second-generation Impressionists. When Pippel traveled to Paris to complete his studies in 1908, he was encouraged to develop his light and impression painting by the French Impressionists. He became a member of the "Luitpold Group" and exhibited for the first time at the Glaspalast in Munich in 1912. In addition to numerous landscapes, Otto Pippel repeatedly portrayed Munich's bourgeois society in his paintings, of which he was a part himself. Glamorous pleasures at the respective locations of Munich’s high society, dances, concerts and soirées characterize his repertoire of motifs. In the present work he shows the garden of the luxurious Regina Palace Hotel on Maximilianstrasse in Munich, opened in 1908, which became a society hub with its events, balls and concerts in the 1920s.
