David Hockney, a founding father of Pop-Art and one of the most important artists of our time, was occupied with questions regarding realistic depictions as of 1960. In the early 1970s the artist spent many hours in his London studio working on detailed illustrations of plants and fruit. In these mellow and yet strong works the object and the drawing merge and unfold a graphic effect that entirely does without spatial depth. [NB]
