Als Kurator des Australian Museum blieb ihm noch genügend Zeit für eine ausgedehnte wissenschaftl. Tätigkeit. Schnell gilt er als der Vater der australischen Herpetologie. "Auf weiten Reisen sammelte er, großentheils selbst, das Material für seine Studien" (ADB). Die schönen Lithographien wurden von Harriett Scott und Helene Forde nach Fotografien von Victor A. Proust angefertigt. - Etw. stockfl., Tafeln überwieg. sauber, Innendeckel und letzte Bl. vo. gestempelt. Einbd. berieben und mit Knickspuren.
First edition, scarce. With 16 col. lithogr. plates. Flex. orig. half cloth in new half calf case with gilt lettering on cover label. - Foxing (mostly at the beginning and the end), plates mostly clean, pastedowns and last leaf vo. stamped. Binding rubbed and with crease.
