Horae B. M. V. - Lateinisches und französisches Stundenbuch. Vellum manuscript Northern France around 1470. 118 leaves. Size ca. 15 : 11 cm, text area ca. 9,2 : 6 cm. Littera textualis, written in black-brown and red ink. 17 lines, slugged. With 8 large miniatures in gold-bronze and in colors, each with four-line initinial in colors with flower motif in gilt-primed interior space and tendril borders of acanthus leaves in blue and gold as well as various leaves, blossoms and fruits, each in a variety of geometric fields with gilt-primed segments; additionally with numerous one- and two-line sheetgold initials on red and blue ground as well as line filler in same make.
The book of hours is clearly arranged and thus user-friendly for laymen, each main part is opened with a miniature, the individual lithurgies of the hours are introduced by a three-page richly executed tendril border. Contains a calendar, sequences of the Gospels, Obsecro te , the eight lithurgies of the hours, prayers to the Cross, prayers to the Holy Ghost, the seven Penitential Psalms, Lithurgy for the Dead as well as the French prayers Dulce dame and Dulce dieu (each with miniatures). The large miniatures show: John the Evangelist, Annunciation, crucifixion, outpouring of the Holy Ghost, king David, ressurection, throning Mother of God, God the Father with crucifix. Condition: Partly with brownstain in lower margin, here and there minor fingerstaining, first leaf with defective corner (loss of letters), else well-preserved, with engr. heraldic bookplate "Biblioteca del Duque de Medinaceli y Santisteban".
Richly illuminated Book of Hours. Latin and French manuscript on vellum. Northern France, ca. 1470. With 8 large miniatures in gilt bronze and colors, beneath with initial in colors with flower on gilt ground and surrounded by tendril border of acanthus and other leaves, blossoms and fruits, each segmented by varying geometrical compartements on gilt ground, further with numerous 1- and 2-line gilt initials on red and blue ground as well as line-fillers in the same design. Late 18th cent. velvet binding, in mod. blind-tooled morocco case. - Partly with brownstain in lower margin, here and there minor fingerstaining, first leaf with defective corner (loss of letters), else well-preserved, with engr. heraldic bookplate.
