EA 1581). - Nicht bei Sabin. - Seltene Ausgabe des beliebten Werkes, hier vollständiges Exemplar, das neben den beiden Hauptteilen noch den dritten Teil Uber das Buch Josua (mit eigenem Titel) und den vierten Teil De monetis et mensuris umfaßt. Die Reisebeschreibung erschien erstmals 1581 und wurde bis ins 17. Jh. hinein beinahe jährlich aufgelegt bzw. nachgedruckt. Von besonderer Bedeutung sind die eigenwillig gestalteten Karten, darunter eine Weltkarte (insges. 2) mit den drei alten Kontinenten in Kleeblattform (Amerika am linken Rand), Europa als Königin und Asien als Pegasus. Ferner mit Karten von Afrika, Palästina und dem östlichen Mittelmeerraum sowie einem Plan von Jerusalem und Plan des Tempels Salomon. - Meist gebräunt und tlw. leicht fleckig, unt. Rand im Bund mit kl. Fehlstelle (Mäusefraß), vereinz. mit kl. Randläsuren, die Asienkarte mit erg. Eckabriß (Bildverlust), 2 Palästina-Karten mit hinterl. Einriß, der Tempel-Plan und die Palästina-Karte in Tl. 2 knapp beschnitten, 2 Bll. mit erg. Eckläsur, letzte Bll. mit Wurmspuren im Rand (tls. hinterlegt); einige zeitgenöss. Marginalien.
Scarce edition. Complete copy with 4 pts. in 1 volume. Contains 12 (10 double-page) woodcut maps and plans: 2 world maps (the old world as a cloverleaf, America at the side), Europe as a queen, Asia as Pegasus, map of Africa and maps of Palestine and the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, plans of Jerusalem and the Temple. Mod. half calf. - Mostly browning, partly slight staining, lower margin at the gutter with small defective spot (nibbling), here and there small marginal defects, the Asia map with suppl. corner-damage (loss of printed matter), 2 Palestine maps with backed tear, Temple plan and palestine map in pt. 2 cropped close. 2 ll. with suppl. corner damage, last ll. with worming to margins (partly backed), few early marginalia.
