On firm wove paper by Van Gelder Zonen (with watermark). 43 x 59.5 cm (16.9 x 23.4 in). Sheet: 50 x 65 cm (19,7 x 25,1 in).

PROVENANCE: Private collection Southern Germany (acquired directly from the artist).
The series "Badeszenen" was never shown as a complete series, presumably becasue the artist never considered it completed. Bathing scenes appeared in his oeuvre for the first time in 1935. Nesch's letters to the Nesch collector Dr. Reinhard des Arts from Hamburg deliver proof of the series' origing in autumn 1939 and the following spring. [JA/EH]
