Franz Heckendorf‘s art was decisively coined by Expressionism, particularly by artists such as Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Erich Heckel. His motifs, predominantly landscapes , are characterized by a strong coloring and a remarkably expressive conception of form. As it is the case with many his works, Heckendorf chose an elevated perspective also in this work, and leads the eye of the beholder along the railroad tracks and the river’s white ribbon into the depth.
