Baechler, who became popular in the 1980s through international exhibitions, is in the tradition of American Pop Art. A characteristic feature of Baechler’s work is the figure intentiously made in a childlike manner and placed in front of an abstract-graphic background. Additionally, the drawing with its strongly simplified contour, references artists such as Keith Haring or other graffiti artist. Baechler isolates and abstracts his motifs, back- and foreground form two independent levels. Thus the background, which is combination of small independent works of art, becomes a picture in the picture. This work is characteristic of Baechler‘s method. He conceives art as a lively process, which becomes obvious in his frequent overpaintings of the motifs. [SM].
